The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Santo Mento can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Cat in the freezer

My favorite Uncle Santo story started with Ronnie. I do not remember the year, but it was the late 60's, possibly 1969.  Ron had a cat which he treated more like a toy cat than a real cat.  The cat would climb the curtains and scratch the furniture and Aunt Louise would yell for Ronnie to get the cat.  The poor cat had a hard life.  It was a hot summer evening and Uncle Santo was returning from a long day, ending at the gas station. He went to the refridgerator for a beer and heard something.  He opened the freezer and there was the cat, shivering.  The discussion that followed was epic.  His rendition of the story was classic Santo.  Much of it I can not repeat, but I am sitting here smiling just thinking about it.  That smile is what I will remember of Uncle Santo.  God Bless You Unk.
