Obituary for Samantha Ainuddin

MANZOOR SAMANTHA AINUDDIN
A memorial tribute celebrating the life of Manzoor Samantha Ainuddin will be held SATURDAY, February 8 at the Baldi Funeral Home, 1331 South Broad Street, Philadelphia. She died Monday morning, February 3 after a 23- year battle with breast and ovarian cancer. Viewing is from 1 to 2:30 pm, with tributes from 2:30 to 4 pm.
Samantha was the beloved daughter of Susan Fricke and her late father Ainuddin, and is survived by her mother, her siblings Shahid Ainuddin (Rose), Seema Ainuddin Khan (Wasim), Zahid Ainuddin, Salman Ainuddin, Fouzia Pasha (Jaffer), Zaineb Ainuddin, and Murad (Melanie) Ainuddin, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.
Born March 4, 1972 in Chicago, she and her family moved to Karachi, Pakistan when she was nine, returning to the US when she was 16. Samantha graduated from Trinity HS in Camp Hill, PA and earned a BA in communications from Wilson College.
Her career as a TV producer/director covered years ESPN in Bristol, CT, NBC in Omaha and Atlanta, PBS in Cleveland and NESN in Boston. In Philadelphia she freelanced sports events with Comcast Sportsnet, ran the Jumbotron at the Phillies games, and was community coordinator for Athleta in King of Prussia.
Samantha was first diagnosed with cancer in 1997 at the age of 25 with breast cancer, again with breast cancer in 2005, and with stage 3 ovarian cancer in February 2017.
Samantha was an incredibly loving, strong, positive and focused person with a keen mind and sense of humor. Throughout her battles with cancer she has been proactive with her treatment while at the same time earning a master’s degree in media innovation from Syracuse University during chemo, running marathons, the Hyannis triathalon, rock climbing, skydiving, camping and learning surfing. She started a breast cancer survivor rowing group and created gyno cancer awareness podcasts called Lady Ballers available on iTunes and Google Play, all while working and teaching spinning.
