Uncle Sam – what can I say about him? I feel as though he has always been in my life. When he and Aunt Angie got married I was the flower girl. Before they had their own children, he & Aunt Angie often took me out with them especially to Uncle Sam’s mom & dad’s house. When he worked for Coke Cola, if he was in our neighborhood and he saw me walking home from school he’d give me a lift in the big, red delivery truck. Mind you this was not actually permitted, but it was our secret.
He and Aunt Angie taught me to bowl and I actually became a substitute, a poor one may I add, for one of their bowling leagues. Fortunately for them I didn’t bowl more than once or twice.
After I moved away from Philly he would tape the Mummers parade and send the tape to me so I wouldn’t miss out on one of my favorite traditions. He was one of my favorite uncles, surely the one I’d spent the most time with. He will be missed by all, especially by Aunt Angie.
