Obituary for Patricia Catherine Lorello Martin
Patricia Catherine Lorello Martin was born on February 5, 1963 to Charles and Lenora (Shiel) Lorello.
Patty lived on Iseminger Street in South Philadelphia during her childhood. She attended Stella Maris grade school and St. Maria Goretti High School until the devastating death of her mother Lenora in July 1978 when Patty was just 15 years old.
Patty moved to Havertown to live with her paternal grandmother Catherine Lorello and graduated from Haverford High School. Patty moved to West Virginia to live with her Aunt April. She married James Martin and lived there for several years before returning to back to South Philadelphia.
Patty’s son John (31) attended Holy Spirit in South Philadelphia and during those years, Patty worked at the school. Her son Adam (17) attended William M. Meredith in South Philadelphia. Patty endured hardship and heartbreak throughout her life that would have brought most people to their knees. Patty met these challenges with her indomitable and effervescent spirit and always found the silver lining in her clouds. Despite everything life threw at her, Patty continued on with a full, forgiving, and hopeful heart. With her loving and giving spirit, Patty also helped care the elderly and those with dementia. Patty’s sense of joy and fun brought a ray of sunshine into their lives.
Patty loved her children, John and Adam, and her family and friends with her whole heart and soul. Patty could light up any room she walked into with her beauty and her indomitable spirit. Patty radiated generosity, humor, concern, care, forgiveness and love.
Patty spent the last 18 months doing everything she could to keep her cancer at bay. She entered hospice care Friday July 19, 2019 and continued to fight for 16 remarkable days. During that time many family and friends gathered at the hospice to offer Patty their love and support. Patty’s friend, Carla Angelini Bongard never left her side and dedicated herself to Patty through her final journey.
Patty is survived by her sons John and Adam Martin, her mother-in-law Shirley Martin of West Virginia, her father Charles Lorello and step mother Joyce of Florida, brother Kevin Lorello (Ashley) of Washington DC, step siblings Kenny (Joelle) Patterson, Kristine (Rick) McNeal and Karen Koehler of Delaware.
Patty is also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who will miss her terribly. We find solace in the life of love, kindness and strength Patty lived for 56 years and the knowledge that we have gained an angel in heaven.
A mass of Christian Burial will take place on August 8th from 9 to 10 AM at Stella Maris Church, 10th and Bigler Streets with a 10 AM funeral mass followed by interment at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery with Patty’s beloved mother Lenora.
