Dear Ms. Helen, that's how I began addressing you, little I knew that I will end calling you Mom. The first time I knew about your strength and tenacious nature was on your hip replacement... then life went on... then the cataracts surgery, and your zest, your gusto, for life shine... our Casino trips and shopping days embraced us... then the Radiation Chapter began and like a general left standing in the field, you count the damage... for many months we asked about death or fate, but no one knew... and then the final call, the terminal date, the day you'll have to go... and here we are... I am feeling a pain inside my heart, is the fear of knowing I will not see you again... Tuesday December 15, your graduation, keeps hidden what we most fear, Death... but hear me Mom, all I know is that you are still here... Friday December 18 you went with us to the mountains and very soon your ashes will rest beneath a Red Maple Tree, but without any doubt you will always be near...
