Obituary for Esopia Maniaci

With profound sadness we announce that Esopia (Lina as she was known to her friends) Pruiti Maniaci passed away on February 22, 2023. She was the beloved wife of the late Giuseppe (Pino) with whom she shared memories of growing up together amongst both of their families in a small town in Sicily. His sisters, Marina and Rosina, were her closest friends. She was the youngest and last survivor of six brothers and two sisters, who throughout their lifetime remained forever a family despite living countries apart. She was a confident, determined and resilient woman focused on guiding and loving her daughters (Fina, the late Rosaria (Michael Tesauro), and Bettina (John Speca)) and later her four grandchildren. And they were for her a source of immense joy: Eric, Michael, Nicholas (Danielle Hoguet) and Justina (John LaMotta). She was the dearest aunt of many nephews and nieces, especially Saro,Maria Rosaria, and the late Sarahina. Without ever having worked outside the home and facing objections from her husband, she found a job in her forties and for a decade was a seamstress. She, along with her awesome close-knit immigrant girlfriends, could have easily achieved much success outside the home. Over the years these friends stood-in for her faraway siblings and enriched her retirement years with hours-long phone calls and visits. The love and admiration for “mommy” and “nonna” will never diminish alongside the sadness of missing her.

The family is extremely grateful for the love and support from all of their relatives and friends. They are invited to her Visitation on Saturday, March 4, 2022 9:00AM-10:00 with Funeral Mass to follow (ALL In Church); Stella Maris Catholic Church, 2901 South 10th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19148. Interment Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Stella Maris Catholic Church or to the charity of your choice.
