Obituary for Anthony D. Fanelli

Fanelli, Anthony D (Tony), lifelong resident of Philadelphia, entered into eternal rest at home on December 4, 2022, surrounded by loving family, Beloved husband of Anna Mae (nee Maida). Devoted father of Anthony Fanelli Jr and John Fanelli of Philadelphia; Deborah (Charles) Michel of Cherry Hill NJ; Gregory Fanelli of Collingswood NJ; Angela (John) Filosa of Glen Mills PA; Bernadette (Harry) Laspee of Philadelphia and the late Barbara Fanelli. Also survived by his grandchildren Harry Laspee IV (Connie); Dana (Joseph) Favatella; Bernadette Laspee; Gregory Fanelli, Anthony Laspee; Cristina Zybrick (Robert) ; Allan Michel; Thomas Michel; John Filosa, and Nicholas Fanelli; great grandchildren Harry Laspee V, Lucy Favatella. Barbara Laspee, Joseph Favatella and Gus Laspee.

 Tony was born on December 26, 1930, in the Grays Ferry section of South Philadelphia. He was, the youngest son of Italian immigrants Giovanni and Filomena Fanelli. Tony grew up surrounded by the love of his parents and five brothers – Nick, Lou, Joe, Mike, and John. Tony attended John Bartram High School; his high school yearbook refers to his “wizardry in mathematics”. Tony later continued schooling at Drexel Institute of Technology (now Drexel University) in mechanical arts and engineering.

Tony served honorably in the Unites States Army, He was stationed in Mannheim, Germany and attained the rank of Corporal. Tony worked for General Electric (GE) in Philadelphia for over 30 years as a manufacturing engineer, designing intricate parts for many systems including the LGM-118 Peacekeeper, originally known as the MX missile. He also ran his own successful income tax practice for many years.

 

Tony cherished his family and loved spending much of his time with them. He was known for his excellent listening skills and extraordinary patience, as any of his children will readily attest. He was a devout Catholic and supported many charitable causes.

All are welcome to attend Tony’s visitation on Friday, December 9, 2022, from 9:00 – 10:00 AM at Annunciation BVM Church 10th and Dickinson Sts Phila. A funeral mass will follow at 10:00am. Burial will take place at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery 1600 S. Sproul Rd Springfield, PA 19064. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Annunciation BVM Church 1511 South 10th St, Phila PA 19147 in Tony’s name.
