Sunday's with Grandmom Angie

As a little girl, and into my womanhood, Grandmom Angie in my eyes was the most beautiful woman in the world.  I saw her as this lovely movie star, so well put together, poised & graceful.  I wanted to be like her.  I studied her and always thought..."she's got everything and  more that a lady should possess".

Then there was family.  Grandmom Angie was always in the heart of family events, either entertaining or socializing along with her sisters & sister-in-laws at family events.  They were all so happy and so admired in my eyes.  I wanted to be like them.  My fondest memories though were our Sunday afternoon's spent with her at our home in Yeadon.  We would first go to church in the early morning, and then wait for Grandmom to arrive for a day of enjoyment.  I couldn't wait to come home from church, get changed, then run up to Cypress & Parmley Ave. to sit & wait on the fire hydrant for her to drive up that hill.  The anticipation and waiting was the most exciting because she was like clockwork.  So prompt and consistent she was.  I would then either hop in her car and drive with her, or run and race her the rest of the way to our house.  Rain or shine, I found myself every Sunday on that corner anxiously waiting for her arrival.  The rest of our day was spent sitting at the kitchen table or on our front patio talking about family and the week's events and then we would go for walks around the neighborhood.  On special weeks, we would get an added surprise when she would bring boxes of brand new shoes for us all.  (She worked part-time at a shoe store)  Grandmom always took care of us equally.  We all felt so special as she always spoiled us with her vast amount of love and attention...always.

Sunday dinner's were always the same.  Welcome and delicious as her and my mother, Rita would labor what seemed effortlessly in the kitchen preparing meatballs, sausage, spaghetti and gravy for ten, sometimes more if one or two of the neighborhood friends would join us.  Those were special days as a child, having traditional family meals at the kitchen table on a Sunday afternoon.  Times I will remember and treasure always.

Grandmom Angie, you will live in my heart right next to my mother Rita's memory...till we meet again.

~Your loving Granddaughter, Terry <3
